I was making dinner and Kyle was packing for his deployment- he was supposed to report last night around 10pm-ish. The girls were playing in the backyard, as they do all the time. We have a fenced backyard and the kitchen window faces out back so I can watch them while I cook. They wandered over to our brick fire pit, which they know that they waren't supposed to do. But like any off-limits thing, it's ultra exciting and they like to walk on the bricks like a balance beam.
A little background- we had a fire in there on Thrusday night, a full 24 hours before last night's incident. The fire burnt out and Kyle sprayed it and surrounding areas with water like he always does. And then we thought nothing else of it, especially in the face of Kyle deploting....
well, Aevyn fell off the bricks and into the pit. And apparently the coals were still hot underneath it all and she got burnt and started howling bloody murder.
We were out the door in under 3 minutes.
Anyways........ER-tylenol 3-bandages-daily follow-up appointments-and an upcoming surgical consult on Tuesday to make sure she won't have movement impairing scars.
Kyle was able to leave last night as expected. He just got permission to show up several hours later then the original report time. So I have no pictures of sad girls because the kids were fast asleep when he left.
I do have gross foot pictures though. This is from today's check-up. The pictures were taken on my cell phone, so not great quality.
The white is the cream and her skin looks a little wrinkly from the bandages. The blisters are real and even uglier in real life
After our appointment this morning, the girls and I had to go meet up with some friends and some filmakers. A British documentary company wanted to get us and a couple friends talking about our experiences with donating breastmilk, so look for us on the Silver Screen! I'll be the one with sleepy eyes and the little short-haired bandaged girl.
Kyle's gone now and we are already missing him. We aare blessed to have a good support system though. I came home this evening to find about a dozen messages on our answering machine from our pastor and church ladies and the commanders wife, just calling to see what they could do for us girls.
I think we're going to be ok. Just need some sleep now
